Tube

Tubeless – The silver-painted wheels have been tubeless since August 2009; the chrome wheels have been tubeless since September 2009; and the stainless steel wheels have been tubeless since October 2011.

If you have the older, tubed wheels or are fitting tube-type tyres you will need 175/185 x 16 tubes. This wheel is laced to the outer part of the rim only and so does not require a rim band.

Notes

The original wheel was a 54 spoke which we have never made or offered as standard although our Workshop could manufacture as a special build. Contact us for details.

Splined Hubs

Option 1

When converting a XK120 from steel wheels to wire wheels check whether ENV or Salisbury axles are fitted.

Please note that if converting from steel wheels the spare wheel compartment might need to be modified. If the car is on wire wheels then the XW456 should fit but wider options may be a problem.

If a XK120 or XK140 has been converted to disc brakes (front), use XK150 splined hubs (XK150 was the only model factory-fitted with discs).

Option 2

XK120 ENV Axle:

RSK069 – Front Left
RSK068 – Front Right

Integral fitting hubs so no nuts necessary

You will need to change the original front brake drums to wire wheel brake drums (steel wheel brake drums have a 5″ PCD whereas the wire wheel hub has a 4¾” PCD).

These front hubs are supplied with studs and washers fitted.

RSK227 – Rear Left
RSK228 – Rear Right

The existing rear brake drums and shafts are one unit. The bolt-on hubs will fit on to the rear drums using the original nuts.

Bolt-on splines, unless fitted as original equipment, will increase the track by up to 1.25″ per wheel

Studs will require shortening

Option 3

XK120 & XK140 Salisbury Axle:

RSK069 – Front Left
RSK068 – Front Right
RSK071 – Rear Left
RSK070– Rear Right

Integral fitting hubs so no nuts necessary

You will need to change the front and rear brake drums to wire wheel brake drums.

These hubs are supplied with studs and washers fitted

Option 4

XK150 & XK150S:
RSK073 – Front Left
RSK072 – Front Right
RSK075 – Rear Left
RSK074 – Rear Right

Integral fitting hubs so no nuts necessary

Note

We recommend using our 52mm wooden spinner saver to protect the knock-on caps (spinners) when using a copper and hide hammer.

If fitting our XW5721 or XW5738 wheels then due to the positioning of the centre in relation to the rim the standard 52mm wooden spinner saver will not be useful.

Requires a spinner spanner to tighten/loosen caps.

Extra Information

Other comments

When fitting wire wheels on XK120, XK140 and XK150, the rear spats have to be removed.

Always check the history of the vehicle to ensure that there have been no modifications to the running gear.

Hubs/splines, spinners and nuts remain the same, unless noted otherwise, regardless of which wheel is fitted.

We also stock wire wheel maintenance accessories such as our Cleaning Kit (Refills available) and Cleaning Brush.
